My Postmodern Song Lyrics

Our latest 'theory through practical' project was to create our own song about Postmodernism, similar to the 'I'm so Postmodern' song shown below.

My song uses the tune of Lorde's song 'Royals' but the lyrics have been replaced to represent postmodernism. The lyrics to my original version are shown below, with the original lyrics to the song posted beneath.

It’s nostalgia of the dead
There’s no narrative at all to this movie
And I’m just trying to impress,
Dunno who I am, this is just a parody

But every theory’s like hyperreality, queer sexuality
Social inequality, these are our philosophies,
We don't care, we're crushing all the modern dreams.
But Baudrillard was like it’s simulacra and simulation.
Postmodernism is in our generation.
We don't care, pastiche is in the air.

And we’re so postmodern (postmodern).
Weirdness is in our blood,
Countries will be run by thugs.
And Gaga is our drug.
Leyotard is the ruler (ruler),
Caught up in these theories
But baby it’s cool, it’s cool, it’s cool.

This is your reality.

I've never seen a diamond in the flesh
I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies
And I'm not proud of my address,
In a torn-up town, no postcode envy

But every song's like gold teeth, grey goose, trippin' in the bathroom
Blood stains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room,
We don't care, we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams.
But everybody's like Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your timepiece.
Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash.
We don't care, we aren't caught up in your love affair.

And we'll never be royals (royals).
It don't run in our blood,
That kind of luxe just ain't for us.
We crave a different kind of buzz.
Let me be your ruler (ruler),
You can call me queen Bee
And baby I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule.
Let me live that fantasy.
